DIY Mini Zen Garden

Hello lovelies! Before I delve into the tutorial, I’d like you to take a moment to close your eyes, take a nice deep breath, and think of one thing you’re thankful for. I find that keeping gratitude in mind is a great way to create inner peace when life gives you grenades. You can’t even make lemonade with those!

Materials:

I pillaged found the rocks in my backyard so there’s no need to buy authentic polished river rocks unless you want! 🙂

Step 1:

Make the succulent centerpiece out of paper, I used this tutorial from Craftbits: http://craftbits.com/project/paper-origami-make-a-succulent-plant/ (re-printed with the permission of Craftbits.) Paint.

Quick Tip: To give the succulent some texture, I put the acrylic paint on the paintbrush then I mixed it in water a good few rotations as if I was using watercolor. This way the acrylic applies opaque instead of completely matte. I also mixed the yellow with the green while the paint was wet. The yellow stigma (big blob in the center for those of you who, like me, don’t know flower anatomy) is literally a big blob of yellow acrylic paint with no water mixed in.

Step 2:

Paint the entire coffee coaster excluding the raised foam centerpiece.

Step 3:

Glue down the rocks on the raised foam centerpiece, ensuring to put a small circle in the center, to glue the cherry succulent on top!

All done!
